Yes, we are not a major-based club. Although our team consists of a large number of engineering and STEM majors, we do not consider it a requirement. In fact, there are none. Whatever you are willing to learn, we as a team are willing to teach you.

Thats our favorite question! During the first 2 weeks of every semester, our team opens all of its communication through our discord channel. We advertise this as a "trial run", one in which you can attend all of our weekly meetings and find which subsystem or subsystems are the best fit for you. During those two weeks, you can pay your club dues, which will allow you access to our main form of communication; Microsoft Teams. After these two weeks are over, we move all communication to Teams to ensure confidentiality in our designs. With this being said, you may still pay dues at any time of the year to gain access.
Please email hornetracing@csus.edu or message us in discord if you would like to do so.

Perhaps the most commonly asked question we receive is who is allowed to drive the car. Hornet Racing drivers are selected based on their contributions outside of their speed. Although this is not common, we as a team believe that it is crucial that our drivers understand the car in its entirety. Each and every car is a representation of every team members hard work and dedication -it is one of one. Drivers need to be aware of what the car is capable of, what it can and cannot do, and the potential risks that arise when driving. They are expected to not only push it to its limits but respect it as well. Driver training is done under careful supervision, with extensive VR sim wheel training before they are seated in the vehicle.

The amount of time that you spend with us is not mandatory. Many team members find that the more time they spend with us, the more they are rewarded in industry, job searches, and overall knowledge. Time spent inside our garage varies drastically from member to member. Subsystem Leads are expected to help out every day, while many general members only come in for their weekly meetings. If you don't think you can be as heavily involved, you're still welcome to show up and help out whenever possible. Every little bit helps the team accomplish our goals.

The average yearly budget to compete is over $50,000. This is raised through campus grants, sponsorships from local companies, and personal donations. Hornet Racing is a 501(c) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. As a student run club, we're offered the chance to petition for money from campus organizations and grants. However, a large portion of our funding comes from our sponsors. Each year the team markets itself and raises funds to support materials, parts, manufacturing, and testing costs, along with the competition travel costs. The team is always seeking sponsors and donations in the form of money, parts, manufacturing, and materials.
If you would like to help and support our cause then please contact us by email at hornetracing@csus.edu

Our garage (Or as we like to call it: The Lab) is located at Sacramento State's Tschannen Engineering Building Room #1357. Our garage door is just outside of Peak Adventures and the University Union Starbucks. If the garage is not open, walk around the building and use the door with the Hornet Racing sign in the window above it.
The garage is located at the red arrow.
